TL;DR
I am on a mission to find the perfect silver for my certificates, but adding a new color or several (I'm adding at least 3-4 golds, and now silvers) to my library is a massive undertaking. To keep everything consistent, I have to run every HEX code through a strict four-step naming scheme, update my master "Excel" roster (I use the term "Excel" even though I use a different spreadsheet app) across multiple categories, and sync it all with my Creative Cloud Library. Between the technical steps, unintended "side quests" into old archives, and general life interruptions, what should be a quick update becomes a major test of endurance.
Good Grief!
The struggle is so hard and so real sometimes. sigh. I am working on the certs as I said before, and I am trying to find the "right" silver -- and I save colors in my Creative Cloud Library with a name. But my brain needs to go through a process with the color name thing. The brain has decided:
- Find the HEX code of the color you like
- Look up the HEX on https://coolors.co/000000 (replace the HEX at the end of the URL with the new color code.
- Look up the HEX on https://encycolorpedia.com/000000 (replace the HEX at the end of the URL with the new color code)
- Look up the HEX on List of Crayola Crayon Colors (wiki link)
- If numbers 2 & 3 agree on a name, use this name unless #4 has a color name listed, then decide between the two names
- If numbers 2 & 3 disagree on a name check #4, if there is a name associated with the HEX, use that name
- If 2, 3, and 4 are all a bust -- it's time to come up with a name
- Once a name is decided on, record it in Creative Cloud Color Library Roster (the "Excel" sheet we have) Apply the HEX-Name on all appropriate tabs (cuz of course, I have other tabs for further categories being listed for at-a-glance). These categories include, but are not limited to:
- Winter
- Spring
- Summer
- Fall
- Warm
- Cool
- [optional category if I created a themed palette]
- Not done yet -- now make sure you add the color to your actual Creative Cloud Library. Be sure to keep the naming pattern: HEX-Name.
- Add the swatch to all the groups it belongs to. Including but not limited to:
- Winter
- Spring
- Summer
- Fall
- Warm
- Cool
- [optional category if I created a themed palette]
- The library follows me through all Adobe products I use: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Express, etc.
The above process is before any possible side quests of:
- Oh damn, I have ABC, LMNO, XYZ, and more on my "Excel" roster, but they're not in the Library Roster. They should be added. I should add them.
- But I'll just add a few.
- Why are they here? I wanted to have the Standard CSS Colors, but when I first added that listing to the Library Roster, I was only interested in a few of those colors, but I still wanted to know which values were still part of that palette. So I needed them on the list.
- And right now, I was about to add a few of those CSS colors to the library, before I decided to side quest to THIS! lol Writing about this part of the process.
- And of course, most days when I am trying to do this, or really any task, I get off track due to life -- whether it's potty or meal breaks, having to do an errand or two with the wife, or if it is payday-shopping-day -- when I can return to the 'puter I have to find out where I left off. If I'm lucky, there's a note or something obvious on screen to clue me...
Anyways all this is mostly a vent and letting you know the inner process. I understand customers like to see the inner workings sometimes.
Welp! Time to get back to those certificates -- took me about an hour on this side quest. lol
About This Post
This "too long" part was written without AI cleaning up my words at all.
- Unless you count what I get from the free advice I get from Grammarly and spellcheck.
- I feel it is a bit off, and I'm not sure if it really captures what I am trying to really say.
- Which is why a typical post will go through some form of digital assistance from an AI model, and/or https://goblin.tools/Formalizer.
- This feels all over the place.
- This is likely hard to read for you.
- With frequent back and forth until I got something I could work with
- Which I edited it until I approved of the message.
- I don't believe in posting something from an AI source without looking through it and improving upon it
- I find that 99% of the time, there's something you can do to improve upon it.
